It was exciting to see how the poster turned out, and much of the new festival merchandise. As a painter with a design background I get really excited about this kind of thing (creating everyday practical items with art). But this year is extra special, being able to contribute the painting and work with the great people of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. Many people work very hard all year round to grow the tulips and organize the festival. They depend on about 50 volunteers from the area as well. Did you know that the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival won the "Best Festival" award from Best of Washington? Hundreds of thousands of visitors attend each year, and last year 93 countries were represented among them! Three cheers for the tulips! Don't miss the floral majesty in the fields this April!
From the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival website:
Springtime came early at Skagit Valley Gardens when the crowd got its first glimpse of Melissa Jander’s new poster art. She and Matt Ray from Heritage Bank revealed the 2018 image to applause of the crowd, followed by the unveiling of official jewelry, wine, beer, cider, brochure, chocolate and coffee. 2018 merchandise from Jody Bergsma impressed the crowd as new designs and items were shown for the first time.
Tulip Festival sponsors and supporters enjoyed the Tasty Tidbits supplied by Max Dale’s Steak and Chop House, Swinomish Casino and Lodge, Valley Shine Distillery, Skagit River Brewery, Olive Garden, and Big Scoop Sundae Palace. They also got to shop from the many Christmas trees decorated with ornaments at Skagit Valley Gardens.
2018 Festival official merchandise will be available on-line and in the festival office on Nov. 15. Office hours are 10 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday at 311 W Kincaid St. in Mount Vernon. The office will be closed Nov 23 and 24 and Dec. 25-Jan. 1.
